Linear instability of a premixed slot flame: Flame transfer function and resolvent analysis

نویسندگان

چکیده

The response to forcing of a 2D laminar premixed slot flame is investigated by means linear analysis, based on the compressible flow equations with two-step reaction scheme for methane combustion. transfer function (FTF) computed from this model, in excellent agreement reference nonlinear calculations. input-output gain between externally applied and global heat release rate computed, peaks are related intrinsic thermoacoustic (ITA) modes. receptivity arbitrary characterised resulting amplitude fluctuations. Linear resolvent analysis used identify optimal structures their associated response, leading discussion dominant mechanisms amplification perturbations, which trigger oscillations. These seem involve resonance ITA instability

Premixed-flame shapes and polynomials

The nonlinear nonlocal Michelson-Sivashinsky equation for isolated crests of unstable flames is studied, using pole-decompositions as starting point. Polynomials encoding the numerically computed 2N flame-slope poles, and auxiliary ones, are found to closely follow a MeixnerPollaczek recurrence; accurate steady crest shapes ensue for N3. Squeezed crests ruled by a discretized Burgers equation ...

Heat Transfer Effects on a Fully Premixed Methane Impinging Flame

The effects of heat transfer on engineering applications is a fundamental aspect in the design of power and propulsive systems. The heat exchange between fluid and solid parts may reduce the efficiency of the system in situations where temperature peaks and gradients become important. This is the case of gas turbines, combustion engines or cooling of turbine blades. However, this interaction is...

Application of a Flame Dictionary Method in Turbulent Premixed Flame Modeling. Construction of a Flame Dictionary

|The construction of a ame dictionary of ame speeds and preheat thicknesses for a given reaction will be discussed. Once the entries of the dictionary have been established, they can be accessed by researchers and programmers to be used in diierent combustion applications. An application of the ame dictionary for turbulent combustion in a circular cylinder is given. Chemical reactions are often...

Flame-generated Vorticity Production in Premixed Flame-vortex Interactions

INTRODUCTION Theoretical analysis, experimental observations, and numerical simulations have all indicated that flame-vortex interactions play an important role in the propagation and extinguishment of turbulent flames in microgravity [1]. Most studies of flame-vortex interactions ignore the effects of gravity and experiments are usually conducted in Earth gravity. Recently, Sinibaldi et al. [2...
